The Waxhaw Main Street Program exists to promote downtown revitalization in an historic preservation context. We see the Main Street Waxhaw App as a way to leverage Waxhaw s historic fabric by introducing new visitors, such as tech-savvy millennials, to the Downtown, while also providing long-time residents yet another reason to love Downtown. Residents, visitors, and businesses will all benefit from this new, fun, and useful tool. -Curt White, Downtown Development Manager, Town of Waxhaw Developed by Apptiq LLC in partnership with the Town of Waxhaw, North Carolina, Main Street Waxhaw is a different kind of historic tour app. Main Street Waxhaw uses iBeacon technology, which enhances the traditional tour experience by adding detail and context as you approach a Point of Interest. There are currently 40 beacons placed along Waxhaw's Historic Walking Tour (with more on the way). From historic homes and art to beer brewing and train viewing, Downtown Waxhaw has a rich history that paves the way for the vibrant community of today. For town visitors and natives alike, Main Street Waxhaw connects real places with a vast online historical knowledge base. In the ever-growing Internet of Things, Main Street Waxhaw encourages everyone to interact with the history of Waxhaw by experiencing it in-person, in the present. The Main Street Platform by Apptiq provides a foundation upon which to build dynamic location and proximity-aware applications. Merchants can offer visitors well-timed promotions and immediately see the impact. Towns can immediately see how downtown festivals, First Fridays, or gallery walks are attended. They can then use that data to fine-tune future events. Main Street gives municipalities and merchants direct access to information about foot traffic in historic districts and shopping and dining areas. Even more revolutionary is the ability for businesses to identify and track trends in their business and see comparisons between other towns and businesses.
